The Genealogical Society of Broward County (GSBC) welcomes you to our website.

We are dedicated to helping others in their search of family genealogy and history. 

 

GSBC meets monthly on the first Sunday of every month except when there is a holiday.

Military Records

The Freedmen's Bureau, established by Congress in 1865 was responsible for the supervision and management of all matters relating to the refugees and freedmen and lands abandoned or seized during the Civil War. The Bureau established a wealth of records which provide practical research tools for genealogy and family history researchers. Learn some of the many resources available in these rich military records. 

 

Dr. Ramona La Roche, a Ph.D. in Cultural Heritage Informatics, is the Cultural Heritage Informaticist/Librarian Supervisor at the Broward County African American Research Library. With diverse expertise in galleries, libraries, archives, museums, and Digital Humanities projects, she specializes in South Carolina Gullah, Florida, Caribbean, and African diasporic historical research. Dr. La Rouche, a seasoned Cultural Heritage Informatics Specialist, focuses on content development, academic/art education, digital literacy, and virtual instruction. Additionally, she serves as a divergent education specialist, providing DEI training for faculty and staff.

 

As a membership benefit, we are pleased to inform you that this genealogical event will be recorded and made available exclusively to members of GSBC. Additionally, any handout will be uploaded to our website for members to access.
